We encourage all our supporters to donate 1% of Income Tax :) This year we decided to allocate resources from this mechanism for all our most important projects - that is the support for free study help for children from poorer families (MOPR volunteers), for Poznań Time Bank as we do not have outside resources for running it this year, for solidarity with Tibet and Palestine campaigns, for other public activities and of course for the revitalization of Fort II.
How to donate 1%? It is enough to fill in your tax declaration (PIT-28, PIT-36, PIT-36L, PIT-37, PIT-38) the following blank: "PUBLIC BENEFIT ORGANIZATION NAME" - "Better World" Association; "NCR NUMBER:" - 0000230149. The space SUPPLEMENTARY INFORMATION - Detailed purpose:" you can leave it blank or write down the name of one of the projects. The blank "AMOUNT REQUESTED:" write down the amount that constitutes 1% of your Income Tax - and that's it! :)

10/04 Let's remember! - the meeting in Poznań |
|
10-2-2011
The citizens of Poznań gathered in front of the monument to the Victims of Katyń and Sybir on 10 February. They wanted to commemorate the victims of the Smoleńsk tragedy and remind the others about the fact that we still do not have any results of an investigation which would be independent of Russia and servile Civic Platform government and, still, no one was presumed guilty. There were over 200 people who took part in the campaign, there were also the Better World Organization activists wearing "Smoleńsk - 10/04 we remember!" shirts. We were well received, especially by the elderly. We would like to welcome you to Warsaw on 10 April. It is not about the Right, the Left, personal details, and the political views of the victims - it is simply the matter of sovereignty of our country. This issue needs to be properly and honestly explained and all the Poles ought to fight about it, no matter how different opinions we usually have. . . |

Fort II: amendment fell, deposit transferred |
|
04-02-2011 Unfortunately, in spite of big support (the city councillors of Poznan received dozens of emails from people sympathizing with our project of revitalization of Fort II) on last Thursday the budget amendment fell through (amendment substantiation, the councilors vote). Feeling grateful to all the councilors who supported the amendment and taking into consideration a difficult financial situation of our city we have to underline that some councilors have unofficially admitted that this social support discouraged them from voting “for” (sic!). A question is arising: what are the councilors’ email accounts for on the server we, the tax-payers, are paying if not for communicating with the voters? We hope that if a child will be hurt after falling down to a big unprotected hole near the fort they will have courage to repeat it to its parents… Regardless of that on Tuesday, February 4, we transferred the deposit guaranteeing 3-months rent for the first rooms which will be rented by our Association to the account of ZKZL. The contract signature is planned for the forthcoming days – the same with the news :) |

Częstochowa: signatures for the ring road |
|
31-01-2011
A local group of our Association in Częstochowa joined the collection of signatures, which is organized by Częstochowa 2020 Association. The petition is directed to the Minister of Infrastructure and involves the ring road in Częstochowa, the construction of which has been postponed short after arrangements and making the inhabitants of Częstochowa promises in November 2010. The decision concerning gratuitousness of the ring road has also been changed, which, in fact, makes the existence of the beltway senseless – the traffic will be directed to the city centre. In solidarity with Lisiewicz |
|
24-01-2011
On Monday January 24th, our activists took part in the next solidarity action connected with the accusation against Piotr Lisiewicz of organizing an illegal meeting of people who were opposing the confinement and deportation of Ahmed Zakajew to Russia. The action carried out on September 17th, 2010 resembled “spontaneous” actions permitted by the Supreme Court. Despite this, Piotr was summoned to the court, where he appeared with a group of “Naszość” and “Lepszy Świat” activists, who were dressed up as Russian OMON officers (an equivalent of Polish ZOMO in PRL). Piotr Lisiewicz, dressed up as a convict setting out to Siberia, presented a skill in wood chopping, which is very helpful for every exile:) Being tugged and bludgeoned by the OMON officers, he eventually entered the courtroom accompanied by the activists and journalists. The action was postponed because the examination of other witnesses – including the chairman of the board of “Lepszy Świat” - was necessary. Movies: mmpoznan, Glos Wlkp. |

Fort II – information and amendment to the budget |
|
24-01-2011
Next week our association is awaiting final confirmation from Board of Municipal Premise Resources allowing us to pay the rent for tenancy of the first 200 square meters of Fort II. Meanwhile, we are appealing for support of an amendment no 176 to the budget of Poznań for 2011 submitted by Prof. Antonii Szczuciński. The amendment aims at securing green areas and moats that pose danger to the children of the nearest housing estates. Furthermore, the amendment aims at increasing interest among potential lessees and investors by improving the attractiveness of almost 500 square meters so far not leased. Please refrain from sending further e-mails in this matter for a great amount of e-mails for which we’re very grateful has already reached the City Council. |

15-01-2011
On Saturday, 15th January, Lepszy Świat organized already the 2nd edition of „Diversity Fair” in Infocafe. Virtually as many as 100 people took part in the event which resulted in Infocafe being completely full:) for the very first hour. Having brought different kind of objects ranging from clothes, jewelry, books and movies as far as to delicious homemade food, participants could have exchanged them for vouchers to be further exchanged for stuff brought by other participants. Those who couldn’t find anything for themselves among the gathered objects exchanged their vouchers for our association’s gadgets, such as t-shirts or lanyards. To find out more watch a film from the event in “Głos TV”. The next edition of Diversity Fair will be in the mid-March on the occasion of the 6th birthday of our Association. |

Christmas Eve without animals' suffering |
|
23-12-2010
On Thursday, December, 23rd our activists took part in a campaign against the inhumane treatment of Christmas carps organised in front of the King Cross mall in Poznañ. On the leaflets there were information describing the suffering to which the animals are subject, first during their transport, and then during a brutal, inappropriately carried out slaughter. Despite their good and calm behaviour (even a single megaphone wasn't used) the activists who were distributing the leaflets were dispersed by the mall security guards. It came to the point that there appeared a threat of violence use and attempt at throwing the activist away beyond the street nearby (that's what the public space privatization leads to!) In the end, the rest of the leaflets was being distributed on the traffic island between the lanes of the road, and the arrival of the journalists lightened the atmosphere. |
